This day in history in 1980, the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team Defeated the heavy favored, four time Olympic Gold winning Soviet Union Hockey Team in the XIII Winter Olympics. The Soviets had not lost an Olympic hockey game since 1964 prior to this 4-3 loss to the U.S. The U.S. team was made up of collegiate players who went on to beat Finland 4-2 to clinch the gold medal.
